NeQis IPR

Capable of monitoring any machine or environment and providing independent analysis and results.

Background

NeQis are a leading provider of independent monitoring systems. Their devices are used in over ninety hospitals across the NHS and private healthcare groups.

NeQis monitor over 100 million sensor readings per day. Their customers get a fully compliant solution that improves, enhances and simplifies hospital infection control.

The Problem

The existing platform, developed by a single lone developer, could not keep up with the rapid growth of the business.

There are two critical stages of the surgical decontamination process that are dependent on the performance of machines.  First, the instruments must be cleaned by a washer/disinfector machine and then they must be sterilised at high temperatures in an Autoclave.

If either of these two stages are not done correctly then the instruments will not be sterile and should not be used on patients. Governance standards require that these machines should be monitored not just by the machine's built-in controls but also by an independent monitoring system.  NeQis are the market leader in this sector and the only solution that is cloud based.

NeQis design and manufacture their own purpose-built data loggers which take inputs from up to twelve channels of sensor data.  However, the software that presents the output of each cycle’s conformity analysis had not kept up with the improvements in the hardware or the growth of the business.

This resulted in poor performance, an out of date user interface, and a dangerous dependence on a single developer.  The business could not scale to keep up with its own success.

The Solution

A modern, scalable and flexible software platform that has not only kept up with the business, but has helped NeQis launch new services and move into new markets outside healthcare.

We rebuilt NeQis' platform from scratch, creating a new data service to receive the streaming data from the sensors and analyse each cycle. This ensures compliance by comparing the data to customisable profiles for each customer machine type.  The user can see the analysis in a re-imagined interface designed to display critical performance data simply and quickly.

Complex cycle charts and reports can now be viewed instantly, while the new management dashboard allows insight into the performance of specific machines, operators and the department as a whole.

The entire application is hosted on the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. This provides performance on tap as well as security, resilience and endless scalability.  Recently, we have improved the platform to allow continuous monitoring of critical areas like incubators and positive air pressure rooms, such as operating theatres and sterile services pack rooms.
