Selkie Swim Co. Ecommerce Website
A responsive front end website, built on top of an enterprise fulfilment platform.
Background
In the summer of 2004 Jeremy Laming and Tom Kean swam the Henley Royal Regatta course at four in the morning! Not because they were insomniacs, but because it was the only safe time to do it, avoiding all those rowers. Jeremy and Tom were not satisfied with what existing swimming and triathlon brands had to offer, feeling that they did not truly understand the needs of open water swimmers. The time had come for a new direction and so they created a more focused brand for open water swimmers; Selkie.
Since then, Selkie has grown from selling T-Shirts out of Jeremy’s car to an international open water swimming brand that designs and manufactures its own fashion and technical products.
The Problem
The Selkie team needed an ecommerce platform that would meet the needs of their humble beginning but which could support them as they grew.
The management team needed to decide whether they should launch their business on a “freemium” platform like Magento or Shopify, or whether they should invest from day one in a solution that could scale with them.
Open water swimming is a growing sport, not only in the UK but worldwide. This meant that Selkie would be facing the challenges of international ecommerce sooner rather than later.
The Solution
A platform that will support Selkie as their brand grows, allowing foreign language web sites, international payment methods and multiple fulfilment centres.
To provide Selkie with a cost efficient launch pad for their new line of products, we moved them onto our ecommerce platform. This same platform powered Superdry through a tenfold increase in their online sales at the height of their growth. This gave Selkie a modern, high-performance web site that had many of the best-in-class features that are available from specialist ecommerce providers.
The platform includes features like; automatic translations for product descriptions, integrated marketing, advanced searching, and international payments. It also allows for different branded websites and can handle fulfilment from multiple stock locations. As Selkie continues to grow, they can be confident that their ecommerce application will support them all the way through to selling £1m per day.
